Photo Requirements for an Oman Visa

The Oman e-Visa is an electronic travel authorization introduced by the Sultanate of Oman in March 2018, which permits eligible citizens to travel to the country for purposes of tourism or business. In order to apply for the Oman eVisa, it is necessary to meet several requirements for documents, including some specific requirements for the photograph of the applicant which is a necessary part of the application.

There are only a few nationalities who are visa-exempt for Oman for short stays: citizens of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries such as Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates. All other foreign citizens are required to obtain a visa for Oman and the Oman eVisa application online greatly simplifies the process, eliminating the need to have to visit an embassy or consulate in order to apply.

Before submitting an application, applicants should first make sure they have the necessary documents for traveling to Oman with the eVisa, especially that they have a photograph that meets the specific requirements. Read on to discover the Oman eVisa photo requirements

What Are the Oman eVisa Photo Requirements?

The Oman eVisa requirements for documents involve having an eligible passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry to the country, a credit or debit card to pay the eVisa fee, and a current email address at which to receive the approved eVisa. One of the most crucial requirements is providing a picture of the applicant which meets the Oman eVisa photo requirements.

To ensure the photograph they provide during the Oman tourist visa application meets the correct specifications, the applicant should:

  • Take a color photograph. Black and white pictures will not be accepted.
  • Take the photograph against a white background, avoiding any patterned backdrop.
  • Directly face the camera so their facial features are fully visible. Taking the photograph at an angle can produce shadows that obscure the face.
  • Ensure the entire face is visible in the center of the picture, with equal white space on either side. Make sure the top of the shoulders and the crown of the head are visible.
  • Not have any headwear such as hats or caps, as the applicant’s face needs to be visible from the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin. An exception would be for those whose religion does not permit them to show their head uncovered in public, such as women who wear hijabs.
  • Not be wearing glasses, as camera glare can be caused by the lenses and obscure the face.
  • Have taken the photograph recently, within the last 6 months. Applicants who have made any significant changes to their appearance, such as dyeing their hair, should make sure the photograph reflects this.
  • Ensure there are no objects or other people in the photograph. Even if a child needs to be supported while having their picture taken, there can be no evidence of this in the final photograph.

Oman eVisa Photo Size

Those who are applying for the Oman eVisa do not need to worry about the physical dimensions of the photograph as they are able to upload a digital photograph. The only requirement is that the picture should be in a reduced file size, 200kb or less. Those who upload a photograph with a large file size are likely to be asked to reupload the picture in a lower resolution. The photograph may be uploaded at a later time after the rest of the application has been submitted.

However, those not eligible for the eVisa, who are required to apply for a visa at an Omani embassy or consulate, will need to ensure they meet the Oman visa photo size requirements. It is necessary to ensure that the photo is passport-sized and measures 51mm x 51mm (2 x 2 inches). Those who provide an incorrect photo size during an embassy visa appointment are likely to have their application denied.

Applicants for a visa for Oman, whether online or from an embassy, are advised not to take their own photograph for the application unless they have suitable equipment and feel confident doing it at home. It’s best to have the picture taken at a professional photo studio in order to ensure the initial photograph provided is accepted.
